چکیده

Daily aerosol samples collected at Bermuda and Barbados as part of the Atmospherc/Ocean Chemistry Experiment (AEROCE) wen analyzed to evaluate the sources for selenium (Se). Isentropic trajectories wen used to further evaluate the sources suggested by the chemial information. At Bermuda, the major source for Se was anthropogeniccmissions from ~ G h ~ m e r i c a . Daily Seconcentrations wen highly comlated withantimony (Sb) which originated from a wllution source. However. a~oroximatelv 6% of the Sb was associated with mineral dust from nortiern ~ f r i c a thai reached Bermudaduringtk;ummer months. The Bermuda aerosol data showed a weak correlation between Se and methane sulfonate (MSA), but the intercept of the Se versus Sb regression indicated that a marine biogenic source of Se accounted for -45% of the mean concentration at Bermuda. At Barbados the variability of Se concentrations could not be explained solely by pollution sources. Conelations between Se and Sb, nitrate (NO,'), non-sea-salt sulfate (nsJsO;), and MSA were significant. The comlations of Se with Sb, NO,'. and nssSO; suggested continental sources. The cornlation with MSA indicated there was a significant marine biogenic source. Our results indicated that a marine biogenic source of Se accounted for 60-80% of the Se at Barbados. Analyses of seasonal relationships indicated that the marine biogenic source was most important during the summer.

The Temporal and Spatial Variability O F Scavenging Ratios for Nss Sulfate, Nitrate, Methanesulfonate and Sodium in the Atmosphere over the North Atlantic Ocean

In this paper we study the temporal and spatial variability of scavenging ratios (SRs) based upon 2 years of continuous aerosol and precipitation data collected at three sites of the Atmosphere-Ocean Chemistry Experiment (AEROCE): Barbados, Bermuda and Ireland. At Barbados and Bermuda, the SRs for nss SO:, NO, and CH,SO; fell within a relatively narrow range: 21G374; for the individual species,...

Marine biogenic and anthropogenic contributions to non-sea-salt sulfate in the marine boundary layer over the North Atlantic Ocean

[1] As a part of the Atmosphere/Ocean Chemistry Experiment (AEROCE), daily aerosol samples were collected in the marine boundary layer at Barbados, West Indies (13.17 N, 59.43 W), Bermuda (32.27 N, 64.87 W), and Mace Head, Ireland (53.32 N, 9.85 W), and in the free troposphere at Izaña, Tenerife, Canary Islands (28.30 N, 16.48 W; 2360 m asl). In this report, we use multiple variable regression ...

Annual periodicity of the ‘*O/16O and 13C/12C ratios in the coral Montastrea annularis*

The isotopic ratios ‘so I60 and ‘3C/‘zC show an annual periodicity in the coral Montastrea / annularis from Bermuda, Jamaica and Barbados. The abundances of i*O and i3C are positively correlated in the Jamaica and Barbados samples, but inversely related in the Bermuda sample. Annual high density growth bands are formed during the season of warmest water temperature at all 3 sites and are enrich...

Optical properties of long-range transported Saharan dust over Barbados as measured by dual-wavelength depolarization Raman lidar measurements

Dual-wavelength Raman and depolarization lidar observations were performed during the Saharan Aerosol Long-range Transport and Aerosol-Cloud interaction Experiment in Barbados in June and July 2013 to characterize the optical properties and vertical distribution of long-range transported Saharan dust after transport across the Atlantic Ocean. Four major dust events were studied during the measu...

Sea-level records at ~80 ka from tectonically stable platforms: Florida and Bermuda

Studies from tectonically active coasts on New Guinea and Barbados have suggested that sea level at;80 ka was significantly lower than present, whereas data from the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of North America indicate an;80 ka sea level close to that of the present. We determined ages of corals from a shallow submerged reef off the Florida Keys and an emergent marine deposit on Bermuda. Both ...
